After so many kind comments and emails, how could my answer to continue blogging not be yes? You guys make me feel like royalty, which is probably how I somehow ended up looking like a modern day Snow White in these pictures.

Someone recently asked how to transition winter clothes into spring fashion. I think the easiest way is color; and January's forecast trend of brights makes that easier. I can't go into any store without needing sunglasses. And for those that thrift, you can easily revisit the colors of the 80s and 90s--just steer clear of the acid wash.

I've not been a huge fan of the exceptionally bright and neon trends; but as a lover and devotee of all things fashion, this was the best I could do. And of course, it had to be stripes as well as pattern mixing. I may be getting into a pattern....I'll try to change it up.

What's even more impressive is the blue shirt underneath. It's old school Oscar de la Renta. We all know that I don't get super caught up in labels, but come on--that's awesome. Of course, it's thrift.

Also, I'm scheduled to take pictures for the blog today; fingers crossed for decent weather.

Your wish is my command. Here are some of my stripe-victories and ideas for outfit creating.

Tie it up

As a lover of loose fitting tops, this has posed a problem for the stripe-loving petite girl. I'm short with small bone structure; I, like most, have to create my hourglass curves. One thing I do often with tops is tie it up in the back.

pattern mixing

The great thing about mixing patterns is that the eye is not only focused on horizontal lines that never seem to end, which can be balancing. The shirt I'm wearing is technically to be big for me as you can in the arms. The more fitted the better.

at the waistline

I have found that tops stopping at my natural waist create a more balanced look. Longer striped shirts on me have a tendency to make me look short and wide rather than boho chic or whatever that style is. Don't get wrong--I still wear longer striped shirts.


Loose fitting

For the loose fitting and longer tops, I contain it with a blazer. Giving end points to stripes can shape the figure and create boundaries for curves.

Doesn't everyone love a great pencil skirt? I love that this one has a little flair. I think it might have been Target once upon a time, but I found it thrifting. Every once in a while, I get to wear stuff like to work.

On a more serious note, I regret that all the blogging may be coming to an end. There have been so many changes in the past couple of months that depending on anyone to take pictures is proving to be difficult. I have one more outfit to post after this, but thought it might be a good idea to let you know rather than just disappearing.

The stripes/leopard obsession continues. And for some reason my sweater reminds me of brownie batter...how is it that I always end up talking about sweets???

I cannot believe there was a time when I refused to wear horizontal stripes?! Now, they have taken over my closet. I really hope pattern mixing continues for a while because it will in this house. Pinterest has some fabulous ideas on this if you enter "pattern mixing" in the search box.

As a life long student of dressing for my body type, fitted and/or cropped stripes work better on me than an oversized striped sweater. So unless you're cinching in loose stripes with a fitted blazer or breaking up the pattern with a scarf, I would probably stick true to size.

Would it be helpful to do a how-to post on wearing stripes? I only ask because this was confusing for me.

I am a sucker for Valentines Day. And while I do believe that one should share/show love every day of the day of the year, I am stoked to have one day of the year that is dedicated to a judgment-free chocolate bender.

sunday obsessions: color palettes

I was looking through my closet and realized that I have these amazing pieces that I never wear because I'm not quite sure what colors to pair. If you follow my pinterest, you would see that I've been obsessing over color palettes. Here are few color combo's that I've pulled that will not only be great with spring and summer, but also ones that could be rocked now with the right winter accessories, such as grey/brownish tights or an oversized sweater.

I used one of these palettes for next post which will be featured on Valentines Day...because regardless of circumstances, I'm a hopeless romantic and forever a cheerleader of love...kinda like Charlotte York from Sex and the City, but less annoying.

Also, there's a chance I won't be able to post much in the next week or so. I figured it was best to give you a heads up so inbox would not be filled with MIA inquiries. I have posts ready to go; there's just an issue of wifi--where we would be without it???

I really wanted to make a waldo joke...like, "Where's Emeraldo?" I ran it by a test audience (Tommy, new photographer) who just kinda looked at me with the pity smile. It was really funny in my head.

Stripes obsession continues...and I'm not sure why but this outfit is one of my favorites. It's really comfortable...even though I look shorter which I didn't think was possible. You have to agree I look like a fashion polly pocket in the last photo?

I also found my top on clearance for $7 which was my shopping high of the week.

Dots seem to be all the rage right now, but I'm in love with them all the time. I never thought I'd become some pattern-oriented in my style. Most of my clothes are that reader-favorites are found in thrift stores. I'm happy to report that this dress is in Target stores now so snatch it while you can.

I actually preferred this outfit with heels and a cardi, but I have had these flats for quite some time and they are too presh with the dress. Also the cardi would have covered up that fun candy print...and the chill bumps on my arms.

Also, there was an impromptu snow storm in the middle of our shoot.

Leopard is creepin' up all over the place and I love it!!!! I've been on a huge leopard + any print kick. Now, Gap is featuring leopard flats with bright pants, which I will have to purchase immediately if not sooner. (2 pts for their marketing department.)

I've been really intrigued by all the spring trends that I think would transition nicely into staples for a wardrobe. I found the picture below on pinterest and had to include because of the animal print shoes listed a must have for any wardrobe. I have to say--I agree.

Have you ever had an outfit you were super stoked to wear only to realize it doesn't translate so well on camera? Yeah...that would be this one for me. When people ask me style advice, I'll go on and on about dressing for body type, but the truth this, I don't always feel like dressing for mine.

Sometimes, I want to wear low rise jeans and stripes that are not contained by a blazer or jacket (both of which are not very flattering for me). Add in a bad hair day and excessive wind during a photo shoot and you get what looks like blooper reel of photos.

On actual fashion related note, I'm obsessed with stripes and leopard print worn together. I may make Sunday Obsessions about that tomorrow. There will also be a lot of stripes with next couple of outfits.

When it comes to favorite winter outfits, I'm a huge fan of this one. I'm not sure if it's the cozy accessories or the shorter skirt/long sweater combo. I wish there was more snow though. I am continuously engaging in some sort of fashion crush, but right now it's shorts in the winter. This is not a new trend for the season, but I wanted to up-the-ante and use summer shorts I got from H&M.
Also on the trend wagon is faux fur, which is a love/hate trend for me because it is not difficult to emulate an Eskimo or Sasquatch. I have two different fur jackets, but only have been satisfied with the color. Of course, I keep many trends and fads on the minimal side.

A reader recently commented that I was the definition of "sassy." This outfit certainly made me feel it.

Recently, I have gotten a little burnout on finding great blogs. When I do find one that has great fashion posts, I have sift through posts related to sponsors, food, pictures of kids, etc. Fashion blogs are supposed to be about fashion; I don't care what you ate for breakfast.

I try to shy away from opinions that might insult other blogs in spirit of being supportive of all/freedom of expression/blah blah blah, but let's be honest--sometimes, you just want to look at pictures.

Another winter favorite--the denim shirt. I actually owe inspiration to my best friend, Haley. She said she wore a denim shirt and leggings every day; and if you know Haley at all, she's not lying. So whenever I miss her, I reach for leggings....or a moo-moo. make a statement

I've read in several fashion magazines and online articles that "making a statement" with what you wear is important. There are also a lot of references to special accents or "statement pieces" in your wardrobe. It seems as those these statements pieces are held in a special category and are encouraged to be worn with simple styles.

However, I got excited and evidently wanted to make several statements with this outfit like "I glow in the dark," or "look at my bling," or "I like birds."
It's like the fashion equivalent of word vomit, but oh-so-eloquently displayed. This is one of the first times I've worn this skirt...I'll pause for gasps...even though it was purchased last summer. One of the trends for Spring is adding a pop of color so here you go. I get extra credit for rocking it in January.

I think I wear this dress at least once a week. You might recognize the dress from this post...or from Target last season. I think I'm constantly looking for a way to make myself look more like a flapper; this dress and necklace are great for that with a modern twist.

For some reason, I'm one of those people who wants to be out in precipitating weather. This only poses a problem in winter when I'm typically required to wear pants. Since jeans are the worst insulating fabric next to silk or tree leaves, leggings are the solution....let's face it, when are leggings not the solution?

I'm also currently obsessed with legwarmers, especially as they appear over leggings and under boots...get ready for a lot of that.

Also working with a new photographer, which is in incredible and intimidating. If you see a lot of pictures and wonder why I'm laughing so much, it's nervous laughing... ps--this produces weird laughing faces rather than effortless-candid-sexy-photos.

"Trash the dress" is not a blog, but is my current obsession as we are trashing my wedding dress today. I'm super stoked; but after 5 years of being married, there is something to be said for the ever-changing person. I'm not the same person as I was at 22 (thankfully), nor is my sense of style (double grateful). So I'm working to add a few extras to make my former bride style a little more me.

I have since found wedding-like dresses that are a little more "me," but wanted to have artsy, formal pics in the original gown. And of course, the handsome and ever so talented husband will debut as well. Stay tuned.

I always get a little nervous when people buy me clothes as gifts. It's such a kind gesture, but also a bold one. But there is one person I'll never have to worry about: the best friend. She got me this sweater from Anthropologie a couple of Christmas' ago; it's the sweater that keeps on giving. It's seen me through jobs, countless classes, and now life as professional. I typically avoid "DIY" because I'm not as skilled in the crafty department in spite of moments genius creativity. I found this dress on clearance at Macy's a couple of years ago for my mom's wedding, and it was actually a cross between the two colors on my shoes: beige meets sandstone, aka not a flattering color on me. So I dyed it.
Using Rit Dye and two cycle washing cycles later, I now have a scarlet/wine colored dress. I should warn you that it was a little more difficult because of the amount of polyester (I think) in the dress, but I was pleased.

I've been reading a lot more InStyle lately; and I'm currently loving their article/how-to on hemlines, which seems to be a shortie's frenemy. I think this skirt is technically acceptable for my height; but they bared no influence when I bought it. It was $2, a midi, and an awesome print---sold. The article did suggest wearing a midi this length with oxfords....if I remember to remix this one, I'll try that. Speaking of remixing, I think I'm about due for a fall 30x30.

I'm a big of Julie from Mint & Mellow. She has such a fun perspective on color, prints, and coordinating the two. Recently, she did a 30 for 30, which always grabs my attention. When in doubt of what perfect accessory to rock, I recommend this little guy. I actually coordinated my outfit to his brendel spots--woah crazy dog lady alert! I wanted to introduce the world to my newest little guy, Dobby. He's a pitbull mix and looks just like the Harry Potter character.

Now, I'm off the market in the relationship department; but I have to tell you--if you want meet people, take a dog. I was stopped by so many guys; it almost felt like false advertising.

First and foremost--if the snake in the Garden of Eden looked anything like the picture above, I would have taken the apple too. Just sayin'.

Fall is my favorite season like so many others, but it has little to do with weather and more to do with holidays....and less to do with holiday and more to do with food. All year long I refuse to shop anywhere but a grocery store, but come fall, I'm climbing apple trees, digging in pumpkin patches, and running through corn mazes. There something about autumn that brings out the more primitive behaviors--hunting, gathering, eating, sleeping. We keep it basic in cooler weather.

So this actually what I wore the first day of work, two weeks ago. (I'm a delayed post-er). The good news is I can wear jeans every day if I want; bad news-- what I am supposed to do with all the cute dresses and pencil skirts thrifted?! I'll probably wear them at home while I cook because I'm that girl. Not.
I am really loving work though; feels great to be back in the saddle. Less days with emotional eating and running wardrobes of pajamas are always a step up.

One of my favorite things about this outfit is the necklace. I rarely enter in blog giveaways (because I hate them), but Lisa is one of my favorites so I couldn't resist. I ended up winning, and this necklace from Kensie was part of the prize bag.

I always forget about the adaptation process to transitions--like working 40+ hours a week cuts into my sleep and play time. I seriously looked at the clock today at 5pm and realized I had forgotten to eat. Along with other basic losses, I've had little time to blog. I can do without food and rest, but I drawn the line at blogging.

Although the seasons may be changing, not all warm-weather clothing should go into storage. I wanted to post this dress now because I'm looking forward to remixing it for fall/winter.

beauty buzz

Due to popular demand, this is the official beauty post. Since there are so many pictures, to post my process seems redundant. But my fave hair pics are here, here, and here. Here's the product line-up:

I use mostly Aveda products.

volumizing set

I use the Pure Abundance line for volume. This is my favorite and preferred of all shampoos and conditioners. I can literally cover my hair in their conditioner and never have flat hair results. The shampoo and conditioner are the two green bottles above.
Hair tip 1: I always rinse my hair in cool water. It closes the ends, adds shine, and stimulates hair growth (allegedly).

smooth infusion

After combing out damp hair, I apply a little bit of this stuff and phomollient (shown above). Perfect for humid cultures--it helps fight moisture, frizz, and flat hair. If you need/want extra oomph at the roots, squirt volumizing tonic show above (brown bottle).

light elements wax

For the texture part (and my favorite), this stuff is magic. I don't wash my hair everyday, but I certainly use this everyday, sometimes 2x a day. It doesn't build up! A little goes a long way.
Tip 2: I go from the underneath of my hair, up, and out (like styling a mohawk).

control force

I don't use hair spray every day, but if I want bangs to go a certain direction and stay, I go here.

I really wasn't joking about the obsession with black and white striped shirts. It's all I've worn in a week. Yes, I have more than 4.

I've not been thrifting in a week so perhaps I'll calm down. The new job takes up a lot of time (thanks, corporate America) and energy (thanks, full-time). I'm still loving work (after only a week), but have learned it does not work in my best interest to look cutesy (meaning I need not draw attention to what I'm wearing).
So if I tone it down a bit, I may have come straight from work. I'll do my best to keep it real.

Okay so my pants are not Rainbow Bright, but they are a little Pink Panther. At least you still got a cartoon reference.

I try not to play favorites with my clothes, and it's nearly impossible. BUT...I love this shirt. I found it at Meijer (yes, the Walmart wannabe store). The little lace detail tugs on my heart strings every time. Which brings me to my lesson of the day: look for opportunity in every store. I went in for fruit and came out with a new favorite shirt.

And let us not forget the pants! They are thrifted J.Crew, but here's the catch: 1) they're low rise (which is typically a deal-breaker for me, and 2) they technically too short so I rolled them. I also I did not contain my stripes with a blazer/jacket. You see that? I have a job, and I cannot be contained--officially out of control. (ps--I'm a bit obsessed with black and white striped tops; you may see quite a few outfits with them this month.)

Today is my first day of work, and my vocab for anxiety doesn't even cover it. But I have packed my bag, lunch, and all necessary paperwork--some school routines transfer into adulthood. Relief. I can still carry the skull-n-crossbones lunchbox, right?

I just bought this shirt, and I'm already wearing it too much. I actually wore it to my interview for this job; I'm pretty the shirt alone landed me the gig-- forget my clinical skillz.

I know I usually feature a blog; but with all the September issues out, I couldn't resist my own Top 10 items for Fall. The first picture is my kinda like my inspiration board, and I chose the rest based on my own working wardrobe. Therefore, I chose these pieces based on what I have already.

The Method: I chose pieces based on a more classic style like the trench and shirt. Regardless of what trend is in, these pieces will remain stylish and chic. What kind of fashion "faux-pas" did you grow up with? I was told that black and brown were never to be worn together; therefore, it's only fitting I show that it can be done. I've been seeing a lot of this on pinterest and this cutie, and I have to admit that I'm a little smitten. I've decided that if enough wear certain faux-pas, they make a comeback into the latest trend, i.e. lace trimmed leggings. (I wore them in 3rd grade and that's where they stay for me.)

So are these trends really fashion no-no's, lack of chic creativity, or verbally outlawed by those with ~~rigid~~ traditional taste? What fashion rule do you enjoy breaking?

Fashion challenge: how do you pull off slouchy chic? Unkempt has many definitions and ideas attached to it. I'm thinking more "disheveled" rather than "lack of hygiene."

I love accessories. I love when outfits look tidy and neat--it feeds my pathological need for order and clarity. But Robert Rules of Order belongs on the bookshelf, not in the closet. So along with rule-breaking, I'm embracing ~~slouchy~~ carefree. You should try it. But before you boycott leg-shaving and hair-combing, maybe start with un-tucking the shirt. Unkempt is better with small steps like boudoir.

Yes, I'm well aware of how late I am on the trend bandwagon. However, do you know how difficult it is to thrift a midi-style in a hobbit size? My fellow shorties can relate.

The alleged rule for my height of 5'3" is to wear my skirts an inch above or below my knee or all the way to the ground. The calf-length skirt has a tendency to make me appear shorter than I am (if that's even possible).

While I do agree, that's is not the most flattering style for me, I do love a midi skirt and heels. And when winter comes, I'll throw a baggy, oversized sweater over it with boots. You can call me Ashley Olsen if you want, or whichever Olsen twin looks homeless. There's a trend: homeless chic...The Little Orphan Annie movement.

Have you ever read or participated in Clothed Much's Rule Breaking Monday? I find it fascinating and somewhat liberating to break fashion rules since the Type A/slightly OCD part of me believes rules are there for a reason and must not be broken. (Ask my husband if I'll even drive my car if I've forgotten my license.)

Fashion magazines and books tell me that I should not wear low rise, baggy pants, and that horizontal stripes are a big no-no. But I couldn't help myself. I was fixated on some idea about J.Crew meets the Boyfriend outfit.

Every since the EBEW challenge, I have been mixing patterns left and right. You have to look really close, but this skirt actually has some sort of embossed floral print on it. I'm mixing in disguise...very sneaky.

I wore this when I went to take the NCE roughly a month ago. I was determined that even if I failed the test, I would still be the best dressed candidate there. By popular demand, I have temporarily given up my obsession of the coral/blue combo for the a palette of pastels/earth tones. I think it suits me.

I've been on the hunt for a white blazer for quite some time, but white can be such a weird color on me--in spite of my tan. While mall bargain-hunting is typically something I try to avoid, I grazed into the Gap found this little gem on clearance. It was not only clearance but also had another ridiculous percentage taken off and it ended up costing $10. My experiences in malls are typically draining and disappointing, but the Gap has a tendency to be my fashion Hail Mary in the 4th quarter.

I'm thinking about doing a fall remix of this outfit by adding tights, boots, and a darker bag. Yes fashionistas, the temp highs are lower 80s this week; and I'm preparing for the most wonderful time of the year: Fall Fashion.

I would apologize for my absence, but I'm sure most of you understand a much needed break after the remix challenge. I honestly didn't know how to dress myself and almost had a mental breakdown when I entered my closet with freedom. There were too many possibilities. I short-circuited.

Upon recovery, I made myself get out of bed on the 5th morning and choose items I had never featured before. Voila. I know you're all surprised to see that I own other jeans that aren't the skinny style.

Also sometime during the Remix, I became a diva. This was a morning shoot; and I simply wasn't having it. Be grateful for the one smile you got in the first picture. I'm adding "evening shoots only" to my contract. :P

Summer Remix Review

I realized throughout the process that remixes are less about the clothes, and more about the accessories. Belts, bags, statement necklaces, etc. made the outfits for me. Without clever accessorizing, it was just a skirt and a shirt. So the next time you feel like splurging, maybe head to the thrift store and grab a belt or bag-- that's what I do.

Seeing all the looks together, it's kinda hard to believe I had that much creativity. I think my favorite looks are 20, 22, and 27; but I think 5 and 25 earned me the Best Remix Costume for my Rosie the Riveter and Creep outfits.

What I would do differently next time:
--More varying shoes: brown and black pairs only? really?
--less cardigans.
--more patterned tops.
--broadening my color wheel. I was pretty obsessed with coral when I picked my items.

Chunky and I have been spending a lot of time together lately. That's what happens when you don't have a job...eating and sleeping can really take a lot of a person and dog. I grew up with cats, which share a similar attitude to mine; but no one ever prepared me for how much love I could feel for a dog. And the 70 lb meatloaf featured here has stolen my heart. Word on the street: Chunky's mom is due with another litter in 6 weeks. I think he may need a playmate.

If you're thinking that the top was not featured on my 30 items, then you have an impeccable memory and keen observation skills. However, this is not a top but a scarf--remix free pass. I forget where I saw this, but it is a blog that I typically read.

If you want to do the scarf top, I'd recommend getting a larger one (obviously) with thicker material. I love this one, but the thinness of it did not hold its shape the best. If you're worried about bulk under a cardigan, go with a silk one.

According to this month's In Style, denim shirts are workin' there way right into fall staples. In retrospect, I wish mine were a little bigger, but there's something about wearing fitted clothes in summer and oversized layers in cooler seasons. So in a few months, I'll be layering this little jem with leggings, scarf, and boots. I just felt a twinge of excitement as I was writing that.... Do you ever have days where you just don't feel like being "on?" Maybe it's just me.

But there are some days that asking me to look coordinated, stand up straight, smile, look refreshed, and act candid is too much. I'm hoping the double-belt came across as fashion savvy rather than confused. Maybe exhaustion works for me in this case. I often receive many lovely compliments from readers and friends alike about the "adorableness" of my hair. A few even venture to say that my hair makes them want to chop their own.

Even though I find the Hippie Movement a little too radical for my taste, I don't mind dressing like them. I'm a big fan of any dress or skirt that allows me to sit or stand however I like.

Jared and I took these pictures after a huge dinner involving a chocolate truffle cookie the size of my head. All I wanted to do was lay in the grass, which does not greatly deviate from the norm.

In current news, I just passed the National Counselor's Exam about two hours ago; and what did I do? Drank a glass of champagne (at noon) and blog. This is what I call the "high life." I am now Sunday Crossbow, PC. :)

I'm happy to report this is an outfit not originally planned for my 30 outfits, but only goes to show that the challenge does work. And bonus! I think it's my favorite thus far.

Is it weird that I've already been thinking/planning all the things I get to wear after the challenge? Who thinks about clothing this much? I'm assuming if you're reading this, you might say, "me."

I wanted to post a peek from vacation--those pictures suitable and non-incriminating for the public eye. :) We had a great time and went with three of our other friends. Seeing Cirque du Soleil's "O" and Lion King made the whole trip worthwhile, but I could have done without the heat. It's like breathing with a hair dryer blowing in your face.

The process of me getting dressed is very "sur le tas," or "on the fly." You got a French lesson today--2 for 1. (I hope it's right because I totally googled it.) I'm very organized and consider myself a planner, but it has a tendency to hinder more than help the creative flow. This is even evident in my picks for the 30 for 30. Yes, I know you all love the outfits, but who really needs 4 cardigans and a blazer in a summer challenge?

I have the worst time planning outfits in advance. This is why I need a week to pack for vacation. For all of my Type A/OCD ways, I dress based on mood and feelings: the two elements in which a girl cannot plan. Someone should start a blog called "Dressing for My Hormones." Maybe I'll call my maternity blog that.

Here's a quick snapshot of the round 2 of the challenge. Only 10 to go. Wow.

Round 1: I'm not going to to sugar coat it, folks--I was worried about quitting after the first 10 looks.
Round 2: This round really got the creative juices flowing, but.... I think most excited about the last 10. (Round 3)

Maybe it's because it's ending. Maybe it's because I feel somewhat accomplished for not giving up. Maybe it's because the hard work is over with outfits to spare (overachiever alert). Do I get extra credit for posting looks 31 and 32? Perhaps I shouldn't put the cart before the horse. No one likes a show off.

Two-thirds of the way done. I may retire a few of the pieces once it's over.....put your "What?????" eyes away. It's all a part of the circle of life. But in all honesty, I have to confess that I have actually started thinking about Fall 30 for 30. I'm a planner....and I look better in layers.

Hope everyone has recovered from a weekend of fireworks, fair food, and....dang it I couldn't think of another F-word. (Minds out of the gutter people).
I'm a little slow right now. Just came off caffeine (again). It's been 5 days since I've had energy. I love it when I tell people that I'm not drinking caffeine; they look at me like I just told them 1) I have an incurable disease, or 2) like I have a delusional disorder.

The flowers are softer and simpler, skinny's have replaced the bell-bottoms, and the metallic headband juxtaposes an edgy addition to a feminine look. This is probably the closest I will ever to get a 70s look. While it's not my favorite decade for fashion, there is much to appreciate beyond the infatuation for disco, the Beatles, and illegal substances.

This is the first debut of the brown cardigan, and the epiphany that I selected way too many jackets or cardigans for a summer 30 for 30. Now that I have a little experience under my belt, I kinda want to do it again...maybe unofficially. I've also been forgetting to tell you the brand of items. My b.

If you've not been able to tell by now, I've shot similar pieces closer together so you can see the remixes easier. After hanging in my closet for months, this dress has turned out to be one of my favorites.

As a queen of layers, I couldn't make up my mind on whether to wear the cardigan belted or not. To belt or not to belt? Waist line or no waist line? That is the ultimate question. Featured both ways, you can decide for yourself.

Fourth of July weekend kicks off today, and we are starting the 4-day celebration with Red, White, and Boom (Columbus' huge firework display). I'm more in it for the festival food and friends. The "good fireworks" are illegal to sell in Ohio; but don't fret fellow pyromaniacs, Jared bought the bigger and brighter kind while in TN. We blowin' shiz up this weekend. Let freedom ring.

If there is one outfit in the 30 for 30 challenge that simply takes up a space, this would be it for me. I think when I was planning, I had a different vision of inspiration than what was actually portrayed.

I look like teacher in the middle of summer. Perhaps my heart is subconsciously longing for the classroom....doubtful. However, I have been reading more beyond the daily feasting of fashion blogs. I just finished Chelsea, Chelsea Bang Bang by comedian/talk show host Chelsea Handler. She's crude and perfect; and if you're not easily offended, I recommend this.

While on vacation, I noticed signs that somewhere between my first year of marriage and grad school, I started to grow up. For someone who is married to Peter Pan himself, this could be alarming. If the 20s are not awkward enough with discovering identity, I'm now supposed to do something with what I discovered. No pressure.

As a child, no one wishes to be a bartender or professional lounge chair tester; but a change has clearly happened when one realizes this is no longer an acceptable occupation.

While I don't have a degree in fashion and personal style, I developed some sort of style perspective that I'm not ashamed to publish. (There were some dark days; ask my bff Haley.) Trading pageant hair for the pixie bob and leggings for cropped trousers, I now shop asking the question, "Could I ever wear this work?"

I'm home! And after spending a 4 days in the dry desert air, I highly recommend cotton, linen, and sunscreen for every occasion.

While sitting at the pool, I came up with some vacation do's and don'ts based on my environment.

Do's

*Drink at the pool at noon solo: you're on vacation. No one is judging. (Guilty.)

*Buy a waterproof camera for water zumba in the resort pool. (This happened.)

*Do at least one activity that you would not do in daily life. (Mine was gambling.)

*Develop a vacation motto. ("It doesn't matter, it's Vegas.")

*Create a music playlist. (Mine was Pitbull inspired.)

*Leave work and drama at home because let's face it, your suitcase is already exceeding the weight limit.

Don'ts

*Matching mother/daughter bathing suits. I wouldn't post a picture making fun of someone else, but

all I can say is, "Yikes."

*Wearing no shoes in the pool restroom.

*Laying out in anything that could be braided or used as kite tails.

*Go without sunscreen. I wore at least SPF30 the entire week and still got a tan.

Doin' The Creep

I really wanted to show off my professional serious side since I will soon be job hunting, which like my usual hunting but less fun. I think I may use some of these photos when I turn in my resume, especially the last one. Everyone needs a creep picture.

Summer was once thought as the glorious months of freedom from school and vacation. I am technically free from school and currently on vacation, but now I require SPF50 sunblock and afternoon naps...Maybe much hasn't changed since kindergarten after all.

I am reporting to you live from Las Vegas, where it is only mid-afternoon. I've already had 4hrs of pool time and a few drinks so why not take a break to say, "Hey Y'all!" We will be seeing the Lion King tonight; it's not my first time but definitely my favorite musical. Hope your Tuesday is just as slammin'.

Unfortunately, I missed the auditions for Make Me a Supermodel (insert sarcastic emoticon here), but Tyra isn't the only one that can smile with her eyes. And I could probably give her a run for her money with making a crazy/choking picture look so chic.

You wanted candid? Well, there you have it friends. Of course, you're more than welcome to recant; but it's a lot easier to do shoots now. I refuse to give a genuine smile altogether. Every current picture now looks like picture 5.

The dress and shoes are thrifted. I almost didn't buy the dress because it's Abercrombie and Fitch. It's not that I have a personal problem with the brand; I just wasn't sure if I could wear a brand that jr. high and high school kids parade like a cliche fashion badge. But I went for it.

This is one of my favorite outfits for several reasons--the main reason being function. I have shopped, traveled, ran errands, grabbed dinner with friends, and walked the dog in this. I never once felt burdened, sloppy, or uncomfortable in it.

Speaking of comfort, I think it's time that you, my fellow readers/friends see more of a goofy side. Let's face it, I'm really not the smolder-glaring-due-to-starvation-model type. I'm neither tormented nor do I live in angst so I'll leave that to the professionals. Why the announcement? I think I've been taking blogging a little too seriously. So get ready for candid. :)

Aside from my weird obsession with pirates and dinosaurs, I've mentioned in previous posts that I refer to thrifting as "hunting," which is why I need a crossbow. And while Sunday is not my middle name, "Emerald Crossbow" doesn't have the same ring to it.

I know that remixers are not supposed to shop during the 30 for 30 challenge, but I'm all about breaking some rules. Isn't fashion about making it your own? That's what I did, and it was a good day. Here's what I found.

If you frequently leave comments on the blog and received a million responses yesterday, it's because I drank coffee. You may be thinking, "Coffee? What's the big deal?" When one typically avoids caffeine then consumes a grande latte, the central nervous system goes into circus mode (not that it's a huge deviation from the norm for me).

I know I previously threatened to flake out on 30 for 30, but I underestimated how much I loved making the red-striped shirt look like Parisian outfits, or my interpretation thereof.

However, the Vegas-hooker threat remains in effect until this time next week. (I seriously hope you've read the previous blog before this point; otherwise I sound like I've gone off meds.)
